Not entirely sure but the patterns look almost consistant with the caustic patterns. So is it quite possible what is causing them actually a highly reflective surface causing reflection to infinity?

I'm not exactly sure what this was caused by actually, someone may be able to get more of an idea by looking at the original (colour) version of the photo..
