Flash Beer
From: macka (d70smacka) @ 203.33.167.228 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 03:15:19 PM PDT)
Craig, I didn't pick this as yours - I thought the profile looked too much like Scott! Well done, nice shots with great lighting.

From: Alex (d70Alex) @ 203.36.83.35 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:43:15 PM PDT)
Very interesting, Craig. I like the concept and the lighting.

From: Brad (d70greencardiga) @ 203.12.133.248 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:47:29 PM PDT)
One of my favoutires Craig. Well done.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:17:33 PM PDT)
Craig. This is a great example of how much your work has matured of late. The lighting in this one is superb.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:25:44 PM PDT)
Thanks for the comments, I only just made the deadline as I had another series from the same shoot that just didn't sit well. I'm very surpised with the score as I was unhappy with it myself.

From: Reschsmooth (d200Reschsmooth) @ 220.101.3.211 (Wed 06 Jun 2007 01:58:18 AM PDT)
Craig - great stuff. I never picked this as yours. The lighting is awesome. Ever heard of "strobist"?? :)

Drinks
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:11:11 PM PDT)
I liked the concept, but I don't think the boundaries between the 3 shots was clear enough. A different presentation would of given the overal image more impact IMO.

From: Brad (d70greencardiga) @ 203.12.133.248 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:57:16 PM PDT)
I agree with Craig. Presented differently, this could have been a winner.

From: Alex (d70Alex) @ 203.36.83.35 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 05:02:27 PM PDT)
Thanks guys. Yes, I was tossing up between white and black background and decided the white was more appealing :-)

From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:52:01 PM PDT)
I liked the concept and the shot, but would have liked to have seen the bottom of the middle glass - just a little niggle though :)

Gold
From: macka (d70smacka) @ 203.33.167.228 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 03:22:57 PM PDT)
Keith, I'd actually picked this to win, so I guess I was pretty close. Looks fantastic at the larger size. Beautiful shots.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:00:55 PM PDT)
I had this pegged to win as well, lovely tones, you've definitely got to get this printed and hung! Well done.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:19:28 PM PDT)
I must be the odd one out here Keith. For me this was way too orange and it weakened the power of the work as a result. I'd have liked to see this a touch cooler. But what would I know (;-)

Dusk at North Sydney
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:07:00 PM PDT)
Well done Kris, This must of been challenging to shoot, and hard to get similar light trails through out.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:21:38 PM PDT)
Kris - the strength of this is in the thoughtful composition with the aligned panels. It's let down a little by the middle panel's lights being noriceable duller than the side panels, but I rated it highly regardless.

From: Jonesy (d70Jonesy) @ 202.7.183.132 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:14:54 PM PDT)
A change of shifts at work prevented me from doing this idea. Not the location but the images and setup was just what I had in mind! Well done... I'm off to do my own

From: macka (d70smacka) @ 203.33.167.228 (Fri 08 Jun 2007 09:07:56 PM PDT)
Cheers, Guys. I was pretty happy with this. I think you're right about the middle shot needing more light trails. If I get around to printing I will clone some in. I think also that it's not symmetrical enough - you can see where the leading lines converge in the left one, but not in the right.

Groundcover
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:12:15 PM PDT)
A interesting choice Mark, I liked the variation in colour, texture. Not a huge fan of the frame used to present the shots.

Commodore
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:13:47 PM PDT)
I thought this one was really well done Brad, nicely light, well presented. I expected it to do well, and it certainly earned my vote.

From: Brad (d70greencardiga) @ 203.12.133.248 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:25:05 PM PDT)
Thanks Craig. It went better than I expected.

I thought the bottom image was a bit poor. I was left it to the last minute and was rushed.

From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:53:56 PM PDT)
Brad - I really liked this series - and to be honest, I like the lighting on the bottome shot = gives it a 3d feel :)

From: Jonesy (d70Jonesy) @ 202.7.183.132 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:17:38 PM PDT)
The bottom shot was not quite as good... but thats maybe because i was wishing to see a V8 5.7 or 6.0 :) otherwise well done

Autumn in a country lane
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:15:32 PM PDT)
Colin lovely scenes shown here, really capturing the essence of Autumn the rich colourful foliage. I also like how both outer shots lead the eye to the centre.

From: Colin (d70scolin12) @ 124.187.159.110 (Wed 06 Jun 2007 02:20:32 PM PDT)
Thanks Craig

Walking in straight lines
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:17:36 PM PDT)
I'm not surprised this one is your Wayne, it had all the hallmarks of your style. I personally would of prefered a different arrangement of the shots, swapping left and right frames, but thats just me.

From: Alex (d70Alex) @ 203.36.83.35 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 05:03:49 PM PDT)
Yep, this one is unmistakably Wayne's.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:24:18 PM PDT)
Wayne - I picked it as yours too (but I picked others totally wrong!). I thein the two outer images are great, but the central image isn't strong enough to anchor the triptych. Maybe it needed something squished on the line (bug not person).

The Old Dairy.jpg
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:29:36 PM PDT)
Nice shots Peter, but I wasn't a fan of your presentation, the "bump" in the middle for the name didn't sit well with me. Where they all taken on the same day/night ?

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:41:28 PM PDT)
Thanks for the feedback Craig. the two outer images were shot the same night (full moon, 30 sec exposure and a torch to paint it). The middle shot was taken a week later at dusk.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:44:08 PM PDT)
The bump in the middle was to align the roof top in the outer images with the bottom of the roof in the middle. Guess I failed.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:23:36 PM PDT)
I can see that now Peter, but it wasn't obvious when viewing it. Regardless it was one of my five, but it do lose marks for what I thought was an inconsistant arrangement.

From: macka (d70smacka) @ 203.33.167.228 (Fri 08 Jun 2007 09:10:32 PM PDT)
I wasn't a fan of the 'bump' either, but still rated this highly. The lighting is spectacular. This was one of my favourites.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:08:05 PM PDT)
This one was intersting and I think the only one where the view point didn't chance, only the movement of the water.

Quiet Night In
From: Alex (d70Alex) @ 203.36.83.35 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 05:04:42 PM PDT)
I thought this was another likely winner. I love the presentation and use of DOF. Commercial quality shots.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:01:22 PM PDT)
Nicely done, I actually suspected this might be Stubbsy given his extensive cellar.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:47:25 PM PDT)
I'd echo what Alex said. Great use of light and DOF and well composed. unlike Craig I didn't think stubbsy took this one.

From: Reschsmooth (d200Reschsmooth) @ 220.101.3.211 (Wed 06 Jun 2007 01:55:06 AM PDT)
Thanks guys. I was also sure Stubbsy didn't take this one! However, I was a little disappointed in some of the minor elements of this one (eg. stem of glass over exposed compared to rest of photo).

Sydney Harbour Bridge Fog
From: macka (d70smacka) @ 203.33.167.228 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 03:18:48 PM PDT)
Congratulations. This was one of my favourites. I'd of liked a bit more symmetry in the triptych so that the left hand side mimicked the right, retaining the harbour bridge shape across the three images. However, it's clearly very good the way it is. Well done.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:04:07 PM PDT)
Congratulations on the win, possibly the first Pentax Challenge winner we've had! Well done. Just quietly I wasn't a huge fan of the oversized boarder, but it obviously worked

From: Keith (d200firsty) @ 60.225.165.114 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 05:45:27 PM PDT)
this was my top pick and it is good to see get first place
I'm with Graig on the border size, a little to big but I looked past that when giving it top marks

From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:49:51 PM PDT)
also my pick, and a fantastic series of photos - well done :)

From: Chris Russell (d70sirhc55) @ 124.189.181.22 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:24:35 PM PDT)
This was an absolute winner in my book - a truly superb effort and as I said in the forum thread - gallery material

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:49:10 PM PDT)
A superb trio of shots and my favourite in the comp. I also wasn't a big fan of the sea of white for the border, especially at the bottom.

From: Jonesy (d70Jonesy) @ 202.7.183.132 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:11:15 PM PDT)
I love it, well done. Like Macka i was looking for a little more in the LHS... but thats just being picky. Cheers

Racing for Sheep Stations...
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:05:37 PM PDT)
Nice presentation definitely suits the subject and would be marketable to the racing team and driver.

Alone in the City
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:09:39 PM PDT)
Nicely done Patrick, I first thought this was Kris but after her issues with colour realised it was more likely yours. I think this had a strong narative and message behind it. Well done.

Is it as good as...
From: Alex (d70Alex) @ 203.36.83.35 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:45:34 PM PDT)
I really liked this one. I thought it had a high chance of being no.1.

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:35:52 PM PDT)
I enjoyed the images but their presentation didn't thrill me. It was perhaps a little too funky for me ?

Pizza Time!
From: Alex (d70Alex) @ 203.36.83.35 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 04:47:11 PM PDT)
Leigh. This is another one I'd pick as a likely winner. Presentation is excellent. Although this must be one of the worst (expired?) looking pizzas I've seen :-)

From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:56:59 PM PDT)
Leigh - I liked this shot - but it keeps making me think of an album cover ... :)

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:05:48 PM PDT)
I wasn't a huge fan of this one Leigh, I prefer to photography my pizza hot, and then eat it. This looks decided cold and old.

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:51:42 PM PDT)
Leigh. I'l be honest - this was one of the lowest ranked images here for me. I wasn't even sure it was a triiptych since the background is itself a fourth image IMHO. You can do much better than this.

From: Steve (d70Willy) @ 152.91.9.8 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 11:21:11 PM PDT)
I thought this one was quirky, but agree it probably pushed the boundries of a triptych

Martin Stamatis shakes the tyres and gets well sideways at half track!
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:02:42 PM PDT)
Nice Series Trent, I'm not sure if I'd prefer a horizontal presentation but either way you've captured the action well.

Underwater World
From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:32:19 PM PDT)
Some impressive underwater shots Douglas, I didn't think the choice of frame colour did the images justice.

From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:58:22 PM PDT)
I agree with d70Alpha7 - I liked the shots, but the fluro yellow/green colour really detracts from the shot - would like to see a different presentation of the same shots

From: stubbsy (d70stubbsy) @ 203.12.147.188 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 08:53:04 PM PDT)
Doug. Me too, liked the image but not the colour of the dividers.

From: Steve (d70Willy) @ 152.91.9.8 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 11:19:30 PM PDT)
I was smitten by the high calibre of the underwater shots and looked straight past the frame. I had you in my top two Doug!

From: Douglas Stetner (20dstetner) @ 202.173.151.57 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 11:22:05 PM PDT)
Hmm, was going to go with a black, dark blue or white border, but thought I would get artsy and grab the wet-suit colour for the border. Darn, note to self, don't get artsy! :)

motox3
From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:59:20 PM PDT)
Jonesy - didn't mind this at all - full of action! Maybe the line up shot would have been better in the middle though - jmho :)

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:04:20 PM PDT)
Plenty of action, all nicely captured but I agree with Rel, swap frames 1 and 2, and it would of felt more balanced for me.

From: Jonesy (d70Jonesy) @ 202.7.183.132 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:08:06 PM PDT)
Thank you, I was only thinking of the images as they were shot... but I think you are right. Thanks again

Feet-trich ;)
From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:48:25 PM PDT)
This is what happens when you've been drinking, and see a reflection of your foot when you look over the balcony - even sadder when you can convince others to do it and let you take a photo ;)

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:07:02 PM PDT)
This one was interesting but scary at the same time Rel, The fact the glass was semi transparent annoyed me a little.

Wallaby Triptych

Nicely presented Steve. Good result!

From: Alpha_7 (d70Alpha7) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 06:30:01 PM PDT)
Congrats on third! Well presented, and well shot. Was one of the side images rotated 180 to get them both looking into frame ?

From: blacknstormy (d70blackandstor) @ 210.49.144.64 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 07:00:39 PM PDT)
I really loved this Steve - a fair definition of cute and cuddly !!!! ;) Well done :)

I enjoyed your entry Jon, as a fellow addict I can appreciate the humour. Sadly the rest of the voting audience didn't.

From: Dawesy (istDdawesy) @ 202.92.87.242 (Tue 05 Jun 2007 09:24:55 PM PDT)
Thanks mate! Hey, the result was a little disappointing but it was fun taking a concept and putting the time into putting it all together. In the end the result was what I'd created in my head, and that's a victory in itself!
